The area of Farringdon (also commonly known as Clerkenwell) is a buzzing and modern fusion of rich history and vibrant culture located in London’s central Zone One.
Once known as the ‘Little Italy’ of London, reminders of this still exist, with traditional food outlets dotted around the area. However, the choice for a keen diner is by no means limited to this, as Farringdon is home to many of London’s finest restaurants. Farringdon is also filled with many Art Galleries and Museums, such as the Barbican Art Gallery and Museum of London. The River Thames and St Pauls Cathedral are also less than one mile away, making our Farringdon apartments an easy choice for your stay in London.
Clerkenwell provides a wide array of options for eating out. Whether you’re after a hot drink and something to treat your sweet tooth at any of the many cosy cafes or maybe something a little finer like a meal at St John Restaurant, recipient of a Michelin star in 2009, Clerkenwell has all your options covered.
If you’re coming to London seeking retail therapy, Farringdon will have you once again spoilt for choice. Here, keen shoppers can find anything from antique collectables and works of art, to designer furniture. Exmouth Market is a fine example, which is just a stone’s throw away from our Farringdon apartments.
Also within close proximity is Smithfield Market, where produce such as meat and poultry have been traded for over 800 years. More recently, cheeses, pies and other delicatessen goods have also been sold at Smithfield Market, making this the perfect destination to pick up your Sunday Roast. Oxford St and London’s famous West End shopping is also a short trip away.
Clerkenwell is a central hub of London entertainment, with a lively bar and restaurant scene. It is home to Fabric nightclub, one of London’s premier nightclub and dance music venues. But if theatre is more your style, you’ll be spoilt for choice at Sadler’s Wells Theatre, or the nearby Old Red Lion Theatre, which plays host to some of Britain’s most exciting theatrical talent.
Perhaps you’d like to browse around one of London’s most traditional and liveliest street markets, Chapel Market, which is in the surrounding neighbourhood of Islington. A little further south you can find St Paul’s Cathedral, one of England’s most regarded architectural and religious monuments; continue down to the River Thames, and then just over the bridge you’ll find Southbank, home to lively street performers and the London Eye. Also, just a short trip away is London’s world famous West End. Clerkenwell and the surrounding area abounds in fascinating historical buildings and landmarks and you can be driven around to most in an open-top double decker bus tour, complete with informative commentary.
