Bloomsbury is a peaceful yet lively location, in the heart of Central London’s Zone 1.
Bloomsbury is well known for being home to the British Museum, British Library and the University of London. Renowned for its stunning Georgian architecture and tree lined squares, the area is also known for the gastronomic treats offered by Goodge St and Charlotte St, which are a hub of activity with many pubs, restaurants and bars.
London’s world famous West End is also within very close proximity to Gower St, so whether it’s the shopping on Oxford St, or the many musicals and theatre shows around Piccadilly Circus that bring you here, our Gower St apartments will have you living London like a true local!

Entertainment
Why do people stay in Bloomsbury, and then return again and again? Quite simply, there is so much to see and do within walking distance of this area. Enjoy a West End show in Theatreland, spend an hour or a day at The British Museum (most museums in London offer free general admission and you just pay to gain entry in to specific exhibitions if you wish) or one of the many other galleries or museums in the area. Covent Garden is also a great area to explore with street performers adding to the vibrant atmosphere. And when you’ve seen it all at ground level, how about escalating yourself to the dizzy riverside heights of the London Eye? Maybe you could even combine this with a ticket offering you boat travel along the Thames for yet another view point.
Bloomsbury and the surrounding area abounds in fascinating historical buildings and landmarks and you can be driven around to most in an open-top double decker bus tour, complete with informative commentary. Alternatively if you prefer, you can simply stroll around seeing the sights. There are a number of companies offering either traditional guided walking tours or you could opt for an MP3 tour to guide you around at your own pace.
There are always seasonal events taking place here in London, from the festive markets and ice-skating rinks in Winter and sporting events held at some of our terrific venues, to shows and processions such as the Notting Hill Carnival that inject the city with tremendous energy and colour.
London is also a great place for the more nocturnally inclined, with a world-class nightlife scene, ranging from huge ‘superclubs’ such as Fabric in nearby Clerkenwell to the myriad smaller boutique clubs dotted around town, catering for every musical preference and niche market.

If using public transport in the area (buses and tube), you may wish to purchase an Oyster Card. Available from many newsagents in the area as well as tube stations, this card allows you to either pre-purchase a fixed amount of ‘credit’ for individual trips, or a travelcard (daily, weekly, monthly as required) which then allows unlimited travel for the given period.
Tube stations in the Bloomsbury area include Holborn and Russell Square (for our Bedford Place & Bloomsbury Place apartments) and Goodge St, Tottenham Court Rd and Euston Square (for our Janet Poole House and Gower St apartments). Tube maps are available at all stations.
There are also many bus routes in the area if you prefer to travel at street level and some would say that no trip to London is complete without a ride on the quintessentially English double decker buses.
Alternatively, if you prefer you can just hop in a taxi. You will see London’s iconic black cabs buzzing all around the city and you can either hail one in the street, from a taxi rank or telephone to book one in advance.
Finally, some transport maps can make areas that are really quite close to one another look far apart, so consider buying a street map to wander around London on foot. Websites such as
Google Maps/ can help direct you from one place to another if you have a particular destination in mind and it is most likely you will happen upon some interesting places along the way!
The official Transport for London website contains lots of useful information and it is always worth checking this website when possible as it can help when planning your journey and inform you of any delays you may encounter:-
