Getting Around

If using public transport in the area (buses and tube), you may wish to purchase an Oyster Card. Available from many newsagents in the area as well as tube stations, this card allows you to either pre-purchase a fixed amount of ‘credit’ for individual trips, or a travelcard (daily, weekly, monthly as required) which then allows unlimited travel for the given period.
Tube stations in the Bloomsbury area include Holborn and Russell Square (for our Bedford Place & Bloomsbury Place apartments) and Goodge St, Tottenham Court Rd and Euston Square (for our Janet Poole House and Gower St apartments). In Farringdon, the nearest tube to our apartments is Farringdon Station, which also operates some mainline overhead routes. Tube maps are available at all stations.
There are also many bus routes in the area if you prefer to travel at street level and some would say that no trip to London is complete without a ride on the quintessentially English double decker buses.
Alternatively, if you prefer you can just hop in a taxi. You will see London’s iconic black cabs buzzing all around the city and you can either hail one in the street, from a taxi rank or telephone to book one in advance.
Finally, some transport maps can make areas that are really quite close to one another look far apart, so consider buying a street map to wander around London on foot. Websites such as Google Maps can help direct you from one place to another if you have a particular destination in mind and it is most likely you will happen upon some interesting places along the way! And why not make the most of it by purchasing an MP3 tour to help guide you and offer some insight on this exciting city! There are a number of companies offering these online; here is just one you could try:-
The official Transport for London website contains lots of useful information and it is always worth checking this website when possible as it can help when planning your journey and inform you of any delays you may encounter:- www.tfl.gov.uk
